I recently received a ‘notice reminder’ from Catholic Social Services (CRS) looking for a donation to support their many works. Many articles have been written about the scandal with CRS and Planned Parenthood, and I was tempted as most people are, to just throw away this notice and be done with it. However, I thought it a better idea to respond to them letting them know just exactly why I cannot support them any more.
Below is a copy of my letter to them. I encourage everyone to write a similar letter telling them why you cannot support them. It’s not enough to just stop contributing to them; we need to let them know exactly why. If we do not challenge organizations such as CRS, they will continue to lend their support to offensive organizations like Planned Parenthood.
The address to send your letter is: Catholic Relief Services, Attn: Donor Services, PO Box 17145, Baltimore, MD 21298-8451
To Whom it May Concern:
I received your notice reminding me to donate to your agency. I am sorry, but my conscience will not allow me to support any organization that allows its employees to work with Planned Parenthood.
As you know Planned Parenthood’s major business is the killing of innocent preborn babies and selling their body parts for research.
As a practicing Catholic, I find it appalling that a Catholic organization could justify its employees working with any group who commits murder, no matter what other benefits they may or may not provide.
If in the future if you find the moral courage to discontinue your work with Planned Parenthood, I will consider contributing to you once again. Until then, the monies I would have donated to you will go to one of our pregnancy help centers in Southeast Pennsylvania.
Sincerely,
If you get a response from them, please let me know as I would love to share it with my husband.
I’ll share it on the blog Jennifer
In 2014, when I work for a western diocese, they also had someone on staff who had attempted a same-sex union.
I am just now seeing this. This is sad to hear. I hope the same thing does not go for Catholic Charities, they have helped us tremendously after our fire here. I would be very sad if I heard that as well
I was not aware of this, but I will keep it in mind when their envelope hits my mail box. Thank you for the heads up. It is news that breaks my heart.
