We are thrilled to share with our friends and supporters that the National Gianna Center 501 ( c ) 3 will be honoring the Dominican Friars Health Care Ministry of New York at our Third Annual National Gianna Gala, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 3rd at Tribeca 360 in Manhattan.  Since this year’s gala will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the very first Gianna Center, we are thrilled that the Friars have accepted the honor and look forward to a very special celebration.

As most of our constituency will know, the Dominican Order of Preachers is one of the most historic and fruitful orders in the Catholic Church, which, though dating back to Saint Dominic’s founding in the early thirteenth century, continues in full bloom today.  And one proof of their vitality is their Dominican Friars Health Care Ministry, the mission of which “is devoted to promoting the dignity of the human person and the healing ministry of Jesus Christ through pastoral care, education, ethical consultation, and prayer.  As a ministry of the Dominican Province of Saint Joseph collaborating with the Archdiocese of New York, the friars are at the service of the health care community in New York City and beyond.”

The missionary alignment between the Dominican Friars Health Care Ministry and the National Gianna Center could not be more solid: we are both dedicated to sharing the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services with those we serve and reaffirming “the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.”  For many years, the Dominicans have been celebrating an annual Gianna Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Church for couples suffering from infertility and, this December, they will be hosting a Mass and Reception for families made possible by the Gianna Centers of metropolitan New York.

In 2002, the Dominican Province of Saint Joseph broadened its health care ministry in New York.  A new focus on health care ethics was added to the pastoral ministries at Saint Catherine’s Church and in the area hospitals.

Today, Dominican Friars Health Care Ministry of New York includes the work of four full-time friars and dozens of lay men and women.  In partnership with area health care centers, the Archdiocese of New York, the Parish of Saint Vincent Ferrer and Saint Catherine of Siena, the Dominican Shrine of Saint Jude, and others, the Dominican Friars’ Ministry continues to grow.

Often referred to as “midwives to eternity”, the Friars of the Dominican Health Care Ministry devote their fatherly hearts, time, and prayer to lighten the crosses of those suffering in hospital, and we at the National Gianna Center cannot think of a worthier recipient of our honor and gratitude.

Please join us at our Third Annual National Gianna Gala to celebrate the Dominican Friars and the 10th anniversary of the Gianna Center in New York!

The mission of the National Gianna non-profit is to help our national network of Gianna medical affiliates to provide pro-life, authentically Catholic health and fertility care to women and families.  To that end, we continue to establish and nurture a national network of healthcare centers based on the Gianna model, which offers a natural alternative to artificial birth control, abortion and in vitro fertilization (IVF) and paves the way for the culture of life to flourish in parishes and communities around the country.  For more information, please use this link.
