Abortions Drop 20% in Georgia Since Passage of Pro-Life Bill

The following is a post written by Matt Lamb, Director of Communications for Students for Life of America. He details the recent success of pro-life bills and suggestions on defeating abortion. It is reposted to Voices for Life to promote the news of pro-life legislature and its impact with the permission of the writer.

While the Democratic presidential candidates were debating who supported infanticide the most, and how to make you pay for it,  some great news came out of the state of Georgia, which just a few months ago passed a great pro-life law. Abortions have dropped nearly 20% in the past 25 years! And this doesn’t take into account the recently passed law, which will save even more lives.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, “In 1994, the earliest year data was available on the Georgia Department of Public Health’s vital statistics database, there were 33,516 abortions reported — a rate of about 13.7 abortions per 1,000 Georgia females between the ages of 10 and 55. There were 27,453 abortions reported in 2017, the most recent data available, at a rate of 8.3 per 1,000 females.”

They note that the population has grown, but abortions overall continue to drop too.

This is great news for the pro-life movement. In a post-Roe America, the pro-life movement has to be prepared to abolish abortion in each state, so state by state, we must prepare now to end abortion. Georgia has been successful in reducing abortion through a mixture of supportive services for women and their families as well as pro-life laws that protect preborn babies and women from abortions.

This follows the great news that the South Dakota abortion rate is also on the decline. As we reported several weeks ago, “Last year, in 2018, the state Department of Health reported 382 abortions. KELO News reports. 497 preborn babies were aborted in the state in 2017. That’s a 23% decrease! This last Planned Parenthood is located in Sioux Falls. Majority of the mothers who chose abortion live in the same county as this facility.”

The pro-life movement does not take a break during the summer. Consider some of these recent successes, made possible by the hard work of pro-lifers.

  • A Planned Parenthood facility in Michigan, which previously had received a sweetheart deal to set up shop inside a government building, is having problems finding a new facility.
  • Leana Wen, the president of Planned Parenthood, was fired, revealing a split inside the organization over how overt the organization should be about their love for aborting babies.
  • Fresno State University announced that thanks to the work of Fresno State Students for Life, pregnant students would now have closer parking on campus.
  • Pro-life groups screened the movie ‘Unplanned’ on the front lawn of a massive D.C. Planned Parenthood abortion mill.
