The following is a post by Katie Brown of the American Life League.
Planned Parenthood is “banding” together with 138 musicians in a new campaign called “Bans Off My Body.”
This new campaign, which features many well-known singers and bands, will use the artists’ platform to urge their fans to join Planned Parenthood’s campaign. According to the National Review, Planned Parenthood hopes the artists’ influence will bring about half a million signatures for a petition protesting abortion bans by January 22, 2020.
Some of the musicians include Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Demi Lovato, Dua Lipa, Macklemore, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, John Legend, Halsey, G-Eazy, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Ingrid Michaelson, Daya, Sara Bareilles, and Idina Menzel.
This year alone, Alabama, Colorado, Texas, Washington, Indiana, Missouri, Mississippi, and Oklahoma have all introduced or passed bills that greatly restrict or ban abortion. The language of many of these bills is flawed, and many still include exceptions. However, these bills are indeed a step in the right direction. Yet, if passed, these laws will only go into effect if Roe v. Wade is overturned.
Planned Parenthood is feeling the heat. This new campaign shows once again that it is first and foremost an abortion provider.
It is discouraging to see so many A-list celebrities supporting Planned Parenthood, especially since many of these musicians have children looking up to them. For example, Ariana Grande donated $250,000 to Planned Parenthood this year using profits from a June concert in the state of Georgia. And in a statement to Billboard, singer Billie Eilish, 17, said the following: “We cannot live freely and move fully in the world when our basic right to access the reproductive health care we need is under attack. Every person deserves the right to control their body, their life, and their future.”
Are these the celebrities you want your children emulating?
