The answer to that question can be easily observed in communities that have a high rate of absentee fathers. Our nationally elected representatives in our nation’s capital need not look any further than their front porches.
According to the Center for Health Journalism at USC, at our nation’s capital (Washington, DC) 73% of children live in households headed by women. The study directly links the city’s high poverty and unemployment, devastating crime & violence, substance abuse & homelessness, and the rising rate of high school dropouts & teen pregnancy to absentee fathers in the home.
There are also great disparities between races & ethnic groups. According to the U.S. Census Bureau (2018) on a national level, only
38.7% of African American minors, live with both parents as compared to 74.3% of White children.
So, I think the evidence is clear that fathers play an indispensable role in the lives and direction of their children. Our society cannot spend its way out of this problem, cannot arrest its way out of this problem, and cannot talk its way out of this problem. Nor is it wise to ignore this problem, thinking it will go away or solve itself. The main ingredient to this solution is fathers returning to provide, protect and guide their children.
God bless you all and may God bless these United States.
Pro-Life Berks is a peaceful, prayerful organization dedicated to the defense of human life from conception to natural death, since 1998. We oppose the use of force against persons and property.
We organized in 1998 when Reading Planned Parenthood began doing abortions. We’ve been praying there and doing sidewalk counseling every week, since then.
We’ve been hosting a television program on BCTV since 2000, and currently our program is live, the third Monday of every month. Our focus is also education, community outreach and advocacy in support of life, marriage and the family.
