Philly Pro-Lifers Mourn Loss of Former City Councilman and Family Man, Fran Rafferty

On August 9th, Fran Rafferty, a former city councilman and dedicate pro-lifer, has died from complications due to Covid-19.

Fran is remembered for being the last pro-life democrat standing in Philadelphia’s City Council as the party was on the slippery slope. He even opposed Gay marriage.

Even former congressman Bob Brady saw Fran as the defender of “the little guy.”

He was a loving husband and father. He participated in many local pro-life vigils, particularly the 3rd Saturday Helpers of God’s Precious Infants. He was a proud South Philadelphian and even parishioner of St. Gabriel’s in Grays Ferry neighborhood. He also attended daily mass.

He is survived by sons Francis Jr., Peter, Thomas, and Michael; daughter Marypat; two sisters; and 10 grandchildren.

Viewings are to be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19th, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 2917 Dickinson St.. A Funeral Mass is to be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And may the perpetual light upon him. May Fran’s soul and the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
