12th Station: Jesus Dies Upon the Cross

It was now about noon and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle. Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”; and when he had said this he breathed his last. Luke 23: 44-46

As Jesus hung on the cross for three hours, he forgave the soldiers who had crucified him, and prayed for his mother and friends. Jesus wanted us to be able to live forever with God, so he gave all he had for us.

Jesus came into the world to suffer an excruciating death to take on the sins of the world. When we confess our sins and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become a child of God and inherit the promise of eternal life. He gave His life not only to save us from sin, but to serve Him through a transformed life.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
