This year we’ve had some ups and downs in the pro-life movement. According to a LifeNews article of May 3, 2021, thirteen states have passed pro-life laws this year. On the downside, we have the most pro-abortion president ever in our country, an administration who has made substantive policy changes to advance abortion.
Watching this president take down or do his best to take down all our pro-life advances, I thought we could use a little encouragement by publishing a very upbeat article by a long-time pro-life warrior on the milestones in his life.
I’ve known Jack Martin since the early 80’s through the Rescue Movement. He has always been very committed to his faith and to the pro-life movement in SE Pennsylvania. Jack actually met his wife at one of our Rescues, and they have been happily married for 25 years! Please take a minute to read Jack’s narrative below. He has lived through the highs and lows of the pro-life movement and his commitment to his faith and to the unborn has never wavered. I think each of us could benefit by applying Jack’s GED philosophy to our own lives.
Words of Wisdom from a Pro-Life Warrior
2021 marks special events in my life.
July 28, with the grace of God, I celebrated my 90th birthday in very good health. My lifestyle is based on GED.
G – Genes, a gift I inherited.
E – Equals exercise, both spiritual and physical. The spiritual includes both prayer, meditation, and spiritual reading.
D – Diet and Discipline – Eating healthy food and avoiding what I know is not healthy. Moderation in everything. Discipline is the key.
January 6, I celebrated my 60th year as a Secular Carmelite, which includes being a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The Secular Carmelites are composed of men and women who desire to deepen their spiritual life while performing their duties of their state in life. The practice of spiritual mediation is a requirement. Meditation changed my life. Next to Mass and the Sacraments, meditation had the most profound effect on my spiritual journey. Daily Mass and daily Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament are an important part of my life.
January 6 was also the 25th year of meeting my wife, Ellen at Planned Parenthood on Comly Road in Northeast Philly. We just celebrated our 25th wedding Anniversary on October 13. We chose that date in honor of Our Lady of Fatima.
2021 marks 50 years of being part of the Pro Life Movement which includes many of the very finest people. They fulfilled the greatest commandment of love of God and love of neighbor.
I will close by giving tribute to the man who brought me into the Pro Life movement, John Stanton. I believe that John was a saint who gave his all to save babies’ lives.
