Persecution and Praise Report

Dr. Monique Ruberu offers a reflection from this past weekend outside of both abortion facilities in Philadelphia.

This past Saturday once again we showed up and prayed outside of 777 and 12th. At 777 we covered the street and sidewalks with exorcised salt and anointed all the prayer warriors with exorcised oil…

Heather as usual showed up with her sage but we continued praying for them all.

I heard from another prayer warrior who said the following :

“A year ago, I stole an idea from a woman who participated with us Helpers a few times a few years ago.  I bring Holy Water with me and bless the space right in front of the gate at 12th/Locust: three Crosses for Father/Son/Holy Spirit.  The first time that I did it at 777 was this past Spring.  We’d gotten an early dismissal from work, so I went over there to pray.  The guard saw that and came out and smudged the entire area.  The same thing happened again this summer and I blessed the area again.  And the guard came out again.  Or rather, she PLANNED to do so.  I watched through the window as she tried .. and tried .. and tried .. and tried .. and tried to light the sage bundle ..  but it WOULDN’T take, it just wouldn’t stay lit.  Holy Water – 1; Sage Bundle – 0.” Thanks R!!!

At 12th there was a pro choice protest outside the Community Women’s Center. Our faithful prayer warriors continued the vigil outside of 12th and locust while they were there… these protests will come and go… even though they block the doors and act the fool the police may not even step in but God sees everything and He alone will make a way for us. We continue our work because we work for Him.

Blessings and Surprises

Monique Ruberu offered a reflection on her recent experience outside of the Philadelphia Women’s Center on August 27th.

Last Saturday our friends at 777 appletree took a lot of trouble to collect dog feces, transport it in a car and bring it to 777 where they graciously littered it over the sidewalk where we pray.

So what did we do? We swept it away and continued praying… and then I sprinkled exorcised blessed salt all over the entire street and both sidewalks including the entryway to the abortion center =) God always wins =)

When we continue to show up with love despite the persecution, despite the anger and upset, God continues to shine through us… Babies continue to have a glimmer of hope for survival.  Their precious lives are honored by someone. We can close our eyes knowing that we tried.

Pat sent me the message that a few days ago there was a turnaround at 12th and locust – Such a blessing!

Pray that our continued presence helps to turn the hearts and minds of these moms toward our sweet Jesus. May they feel His love and kindness.

STUDENT TESTIMONIES FROM CANVASSING FOR VALUE THEM BOTH AMENDMENT

While the amendment failed to get the yes majority from Kansasans, many of those who went door to door to encourage people to vote had some takes on their firsthand accounts on voters being informed on the pro-life amendment. Here are two of those who were stepped into the breach.

Dana Stancavage, Students for Life Action Press Specialist and Online Editor: “We fought hard in Kansas against the disinformation being spread on Value Them Both, but our work is far from over. While we fully supported this amendment to pave the way for pro-life laws to be taken up by the legislature, we reflect on the many years it took for Roe to fall and know more work lies ahead for the Pro-Life Generation who have the grit and passion to defend preborn lives.”

Gabby Lara, Students for Life Action KS Value Them Both Field Coordinator: “Despite the disappointing results, the dedication of our students all summer shows us that the pro-life generation is always ready to take action against abortion. We are ready to change culture in America by continuing to talk to our generation about this issue, one of the biggest injustices of our time. I couldn’t have been prouder to work with the Pro-Life Generation every single day.”

NEW SUPREME KNIGHT CALLS BROTHERS TO DEFEND LIFE; HIGHLIGHTS KNIGHTS’ DEFENSE OF LIFE

After a three-year hiatus, the Knights of Columbus annual convention, held in Nashville, was back in person. For the first time in person, they were addressed by the 14th elected Supreme Knight, Patrick Kelly. He opened his address reflecting on being a part of a family legacy that is now embedded in him as he leads the order. He credited both his grandfather and father on what it means to be a knight.

Reflecting on their examples, Supreme Knight Kelly summed up what it means to be a knight in the Catholic brotherhood.

“A knight is a leader who stands in the breach.” Kelly emphasized. “We defend the faith. We protect the family. And when a need arises, we meet it with charity, unity, and fraternity.

Correlating his message to the recent overturn of the Roe v Wade decision, he stresses the need to “win the fight for life.”

“Abortion was never in the constitution and by its overturning, the Supreme Court has right the worst injustice in American history.”

Roe is overturned, but “we have much work to do.” While it is a crucial milestone, it is not the end. He saw it as a sign of hope and knights must continue to double down on the defense of human life.

Since 1974, the Knights of Columbus were instrumental in the growth of the annual March for Life in Washington, DC.  In addition to Washington, D.C., they have sponsored marches in Canada, Philippines, Poland, and all 50 states in the United States.

He continued to highlight the ultrasound machine initiative, which first began in 2009 and has made it possible to have 1566 machines in pregnancy centers in all 50 states and other parts of the world. The ultrasound has been a proven vessel in the fight to show the humanity of the unborn child.

They also have been the pioneers in a program that assists mothers who look to help at pregnancy resource centers by offering an initiative to donate to these essential places to help a scared mother choose life while matching the amount from any council.

These men called knights are what we need to fight against abortion. Indeed, men can have a say in the abortion debate when they are willing to help a society nurture and protect life from womb to tomb.

PRO-LIFE AMENDMENT FAILS IN KANSAS

Despite the hard work of canvassers through Students for Life Action, the pro-life amendment has failed to get enough yes votes with 58% voting again the life-saving amendment during yesterday’s state primary.

The pro-life amendment would have added language to the Kansas Constitution stating that there is no right to an abortion or taxpayer-funded abortion. Although it would not ban the killing of unborn babies in abortions, it would allow the voter-elected state legislature to do so.

“Without this amendment, even barbaric late-term abortions will be allowed,” said Harrison Butker, kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, in an ad supporting the amendment. “This amendment will let Kansans decide what we do on abortions, not judges and not D.C. politicians.”

It is a sad day that a so-called “Conservative State” in the middle of the heartland of the United States chose death over life.

Pro-lifers all across the board must double their efforts to ensure life is protected from womb to tomb.

Abortion Supporter Attacks Teenager Canvassing with Students for Life Action Ahead of Kansas Value Them Both Vote

The following is from Kristi Hemrick of Students for Life of America.

“As reported to police, a grown woman took out her frustrations over abortion on a teenager who volunteered to let people know about the Kansas ballot initiative. This brings abortion radicals’ ‘Summer of Rage’ close to home,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “But the Pro-Life Generation will not be forced into silence or fear because of radical pro-abortionists who show no regard for life, inside or outside of the womb, and no respect for the free speech rights of their fellow citizens.”

Kansas City, KS and Washington, D.C. (08-01-22) – Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins said that a police complaint has been filed regarding an attack on a teenager working to get out the vote in favor of the Kansas Value Them Both Amendment that will ensure the state’s constitution is abortion neutral, allowing voters to engage on abortion policy. “In knocking on thousands of doors nationwide, we’ve never experienced such an unprovoked attack,” said Hawkins. A report was filed with the Leewood Police Department by the teenager who was wrongfully attacked.

“It’s unfathomable that the pro-choice movement claims to be ‘pro-woman’ and yet attacks women who don’t agree with their narrative,” said 18-year-old SFLAction volunteer Grace Hartsock, who returned to door knocking today. “It’s not surprising to me that a person who advocates for violence in the womb wouldn’t hesitate to attack a pro-life woman like myself.”

Video, pictures, and more details at the Students for Life Action blog, here. The details of the event from the volunteer are as follows:

On Sunday, July 31st, Hartsock rang the doorbell of a home just as the SFLAction team did over 1,700 times that day in the Overland Park area. After introducing herself and asking if she could count on the woman’s support for Tuesday vote, the resident replied, “No, I’m sorry I don’t think you want to talk to us.”

Hartsock recounted that as she politely thanked her for her time and began to leave the property, a female voice began yelling and cursing from inside the home. Hartsock said that she stopped momentarily to turn around to face the voice yelling expletives and heard her say, “Don’t apologize to her, mom.” As Hartsock was turning, the yelling woman ran out the front door and began chasing her.

The woman shoved Hartsock in the chest with both hands and began hitting her in the head with closed fists. Hartsock attempted to protect herself and leave while the resident’s mother was laughing and telling her daughter to stop the violence.

Hartsock told police that as she made it down the driveway to get distance from the irate pro-abortion supporters, the woman (the mother?) threw a piece of food that hit her in the face as the pro-abortionist (daughter?) followed her down the street screaming curses and phrases such as, “I hope you get raped,” and “I hope you get run over by a car.”

Students for Life Action’s team on the ground took Hartsock to be examined at a local Emergency Room and has no physical injuries though she was emotionally shaken.

“What’s a little ironic is that the ballot initiative would allow every Kansan to weigh in on the policy they prefer, but rather than fight for abortion policy, we have some fighting our volunteers,” said Hawkins.

This first post-Roe vote would allow make it clear that Kansas State Constitution does not protect abortion, which would allow pro-life laws to be passed. With the vote set to take place on Tuesday, SFLAction and pro-life groups are making one last push to educate voters on the Value Them Both ballot referendum as the Pro-Life Generation seeks for their voice and vote on abortion to be heard.

To learn more about the Post-Roe Blueprint from SFLAction, read Hawkins’ latest op-ed at Fox titled RIP Roe: Supreme Court abortion ruling sets stage for what pro-life groups do next.
