The headline says it all. In two separate email blasts within 48 hours, Monique reported five saves.
On Monday and Tuesday, a save took place, one from each facility. On Friday, a student from UPenn reported of a woman changing her mind about abortion and connected her to Alpha Pregnancy in West Philly.
Many times while we are outside of our local abortion facility praying and giving public witness or sidewalk counseling, we often wonder if our efforts are in vain. I know I ‘ve felt that way on several occasions and would go home feeling dejected.
Below is an uplifting account of a baby saved from abortion many years ago at the Northeast Women’s Center on Comly Road in Philadelphia (now a Planned Parenthood). We don’t always know what the outcome of our presence or our offering of help to these women will be, but God sometimes works behind the scenes while answering our prayers. Once in a while we get to see or hear about the outcome as we see below. This report comes from Mike McMonagle, President of the Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania as told to him by Patrick Stanton.
God bless all of you who continually pray and give witness outside of these killing centers. Your prayers and actions, although you might not know it, are being answered!
From Mike McMonagle’s email:
I close with an encouraging report that I received today from Pat Stanton.
When Pat was departing PP’s Center City abortion chamber today, a Philadelphia Civil Affairs Officer approached him and thanked him – and all pro-lifers – for our sidewalk counseling and public witness at abortion chambers.
This Officer revealed that, in 1988, he and his pregnant wife entered PP’s Comly Road abortion chamber for a scheduled abortion. However, because of the witness, prayers, and information (particularly with photos) given to them by the pro-life citizens, they left without allowing an abortionist to kill their child.
The Officer concluded with the deeply heartfelt expression “We have had our son for 34 years now and every day I thank God for you people. Keep up the good work.”
Let’s continue to act on this Officer’s exhortation!
40 Days for Life is off to a great starts after three days into the campaign. Two saves took place outside of Planned Parenthood on Thursday thanks to the witness of faithful witness across the Greater Philadelphia area. Even one woman said that “she didn’t want to do it anymore and wants her money back.”
The next morning, pro-lifers handed information to two young women as they were entering the facility. A few minutes later, they each walked out with information still in their possession.
Let us continue to be present outside of abortion facilities offering help to women in their hour of great need.
On social media, Dr. Monique Ruberu and Marlene Downing shared some great news. The first is shared by Monique.
Nine months ago, a scared young girl went into 777 Appletree and took an abortion pill. She later regretted this choice and called the abortion center to find out if anything could be done… they told her to go to the ER… the ER had no help for her, but while she sat there she desperately searched the web and came across Marlene Downing who was the Hope Pregnancy Center Director. Marlene took the late-night call and called me… at 10 o’clock at night I told that girl to meet me at my office… I took Marlene with me on the phone for safety since I had never met anyone this late alone in my office…
The minute I laid eyes on her I knew I had nothing to worry about… this sweet mama was nothing but love.
I gave her her 1st progesterone shot and arranged to follow up… prayed with her and Marlene….
Soon after I met her to do an ultrasound and make sure the sweet baby was still alive and she was. We went for lunch to celebrate that day!
Today is a joyous day. I have to tell the story even though my beautiful friend Monique did an amazing job telling it.
I was given permission by the mom to educate you all on the miracle that took place in a beautiful mother’s life.
Let me first start out by saying that Dr. Ruberu, myself, and countless others live a life of servitude to mothers and babies daily. It is our mission to assist and love not only the babies but the mothers. We have so many stories left untold because it’s not at all about recognition of us but leading lives that represent our father in Heaven. We take this very seriously.
BUT … this story holds so many layers that need to be told because telling it can be educational and a saving grace for others.
Last year I was the director of Hope pregnancy center. I took after-hours calls. It didn’t matter where I was..driving, grocery store, in bed in the middle of the night I answer the phone calls directed from the center to my personal line.
This time I was headed to the grocery store and the phone rang. I answered. On the other line was a young woman asking if this was a place that she can call to speak to someone about abortion. I responded that we don’t do abortions but I would love to talk to her before she makes that decision. She said I’m looking for someone to help me. She said she took the abortion pill and regrets taking it.
My heart dropped because of the life or death reality of the matter but I was excited that she called. There were a few things that I needed to know first. One -When did she take the pill ( a mother has 72hrs to change her mind to increase the chances of saving the life of her baby)
She said that she would. I told her to call the hotline and call me back once she’s spoken with them.
I continued into the store, got my groceries, and headed home. She was on my mind the entire time but I didn’t want to interrupt the process so I waited to call back. An hour went by I called her back. I asked what happened when she called the hotline. She said because she had a peanut allergy they couldn’t subscribe the pill to reverse it but she may be able to go to the ER to get a shot. The shot would not affect her allergy. So I said I highly doubt that they will help in the ER but I told her to let me know when she sees a doctor there. In the meantime I called the only person that I could 100% count on to do everything she could possibly do in this situation Monique Ruberu I told Dr. Ruberu what was going on, she said “see what the doctors say in the ER and I will talk to my husband in case I have to shoot over to my office. “ I said awesome I’ll call you back.
I waited for the young woman to call, no call so I called her and asked what was going on. She said the ER doctors didn’t want to give her the shot… I asked her how far she was from Dr. Ruberu’s office. She put it in her GPS .. she was exactly 16 minutes away! I called Dr. Ruberu and stayed on the phone with her until she got to the office because after all I never met the young woman and she never met her to be there at 10pm in the dark of the night.
When the young woman arrived Dr. Ruberu and I was already praying for the baby over the phone and it was now my time to hang up knowing that everyone was safe and things were moving forward.
Later that night I got a text thanking me for introducing her to Dr. Ruberu. She felt so much better knowing that there was a chance her baby would live.
Later that week there was a follow-up visit to check the heartbeat the heartbeat was strong! So we all went out to eat to celebrate life! (Picture above)
I continued to pray and talk to the young woman about concerns at home in early pregnancy. There came a time of hardship when she needed an immediate place to stay. I contacted Wendy Stanton and Pat Stanton of Our Lady’s House maternity home and they prepared a room for her. She stayed the majority of her pregnancy there and was later transferred to another Maternity care Facility.
During her stay, city life Church reached out to Hope Pregnancy Center to sponsor a baby shower. I worked with Trish to organize the shower. It was awesome. It was there that the beautiful young woman got most of what she needed to prepare for life as a new mom! (Picture below)
The same night we threw the baby shower, my mother passed away of Cancer. I worked and directed the center all of that day knowing my mother was in the hospital not doing well and helped set up and throw the baby shower. The last person left at 7:45.. I got in my car at 8:15pm at 8:20pm I received a phone call from my brother telling me that my mom didn’t make it.
So at the celebration of life, God saw fit to take one. He is beautiful in ALL things.
The care for this mom and baby will continue. Our relationship is more than an experience .. she is truly like family. She is a beautiful young lady, she loves God and that’s why she changed her mind. She said that she knew something wasn’t right and she had to fix it.
Here is the last thing I want to say. BE AVAILABLE… Had I not picked up the call, had doctor Ruberu chosen to stay in the comfort of her home, had Pat and Wendy not opened their home, had we not prayed… that beautiful baby would not BE HERE.
God has a plan and purpose for you that includes others around you. Don’t be selfish.. Don’t grow weary in well-doing.
OH, AND ANOTHER THING- Women do regret abortion so we won’t stop talking about it and educating everyone on resources and ways to overcome it.
The following report, from the 2020 Pa. Department of Health Abortion Statistics, provides a stark reminder for the ongoing need for these campaigns.
Planned Parenthood, Warminster – 885 Planned Parenthood, West Chester – 1,141 Planned Parenthood, Norristown – 822 Planned Parenthood, Northeast Philadelphia – 2,393 Planned Parenthood, Center City – 3,705 Philadelphia Women’s Center – 6,224
We will not know what played a role in the dip in numbers last year. Whether it was COVID or not, we know that it is not a time to lick our wounds and hope it continues to take a dip. We must continue to be present. Are you ready to take a stand today? Learn how here
For decades, Texas has lead the way in its efforts to defend the sanctity of human life. On September 1st, the heartbeat bill has gone into effect. Despite a pea from ACLU and Planned Parenthood to the Supreme Court to dstrike down the law, five justices, including Amy Coney-Barrett (about time) has ruled in favor of the law.
The law, signed in the spring time by Governor Greg Abbott, protects the unborn child as early as 6 weeks following conception. It is a time of rejoicing for all pro-lifers. At the same time, we still have much work that needs to be done to cultivate a culture where all life is protected from the moment of conception to natural death.
Kudos to the Republic of Texas for leading the charge and continuing to do so for the unborn.
A beautiful spring Saturday dawned upon the 150 pro-lifers that came out to celebrate outside of the largest non-Planned Parenthood affiliate in the State of Pennsylvania.
Fr. Matthew Bierdrycki of the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral delivered the opening prayer for all in attendance.
Those who attendant heard from speakers that ranges from seasoned veterans to young leaders on college campuses and just added to the fold a high school senior.
One in particular was Emily Jones. Jones, a senior at Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in Flourtown, spoke about how the inaugural Philadelphia March for Life inspired her to do more for the pro-life cause. Despite backlash, threats, and even the loss of friendships she endured, she kept the faith and helped revitalize her school’s pro-life group. She even signed up for vigil hours.
Two prominent college women spoke to the crowd, Karly Brown of Temple and Kassidy Johnson.
Johnson, a junior at University of Pennsylvania and member of Quakers for Life, shared how she was moved from her experience in Philadelphia. Coming from North Dakota which has only one abortion facility, Johnson shared how she knew that more had to be done to protect life.
For Karly Brown, she is no stranger to pro-life activism in Philadelphia area. Every Friday, her and Sean Garvey, both students at Temple would pray outside of Warminster Planned Parenthood. They both are now engaged. Congratulations Karly and Sean.
Pat Stanton goes on to share why our world should not tolerate the evil of abortion. Using examples of historical figures, he reminded everyone that each of them fought against the injustices of their time. He asked that we do the same when it comes to abortion.
Below is a reflection and testimony on a save that happened yesterday outside of Planned Parenthood in Center City. My hope is that someone would be inspired to step into the breach to save lives as I do with many of my fellow pro-lifers.
Today was a day filled with so much traffic. I remember people walking by shaking their heads in disgust of my presence outside of an abortion facility that is the epitome of White Supremacy. Even one person (Jacob )that walks the route along locust on his way to work, only to stop to snap a photo of me and send it to his friend Anna from (Philadelphia Women’s Center).
As I was winding down my two hour coverage, two young women were going in as I offered to them a blessing bag. They declined and went inside.
A few minutes later, those same girls came out two minutes apart. One of them was crying. I knew that it was my moment as I prayed the flying novena. After concluding the flying novena, the girls came out of the gate. This time, I wasted no time offering them life saving information. They thanked me for sharing and wished me a good day as I watched them walk away from the place.
If this is not why we are needed outside of places of doom and gloom then I don’t know what is.
And what amazes me is she went from tears of sadness and woe to leaving PP with a hint of hope for her and child
It also dawned on me that today is the Solemnity of the Annunciation. God’s sense of timing for yet another news worth of praise.
Please attend the closing rally outside of the largest non-Planned Parenthood affiliate in our city and state.
The following is from an email blast sent by Dr. Monique Ruberu. Scroll to the end of the blog to know how you can get involved with 40 Days for Life Philly.
