August To-Do List

Hard to believe that it is August, and we’re more than half way through the summer.

The 8th month of the year can serve as a time to get in much needed family vacation before school is back in session. Sadly, the pandemic has put everyone’s plans on hold. Some are still unsure due to the unprecedented times.

The good news is Voices for Life has a to-do list throughout the month that can help you channel your Covid-19 frustrations in helping to advance the pro-life message. This list is applicable for your daily pro-life conviction.

  1. See Trump Card

It should come as no surprise that Dinesh D’Sousa, an immigrant of India, is not done defending the core principles of America. For the last eight years, he has been on the New York Times bestseller’s list, been falsely convicted for fraud, and has produced documentaries that have been game changers. His latest project, “Trump Card” is slated to be released on Friday, August 7th. Due to the temporary closing of movie theaters, you can view the documentary on-demand.

He played a pivotal role in exposing Hillary Clinton’s past which helped Donald Trump become the 45th President of the United States with “Hillary’s America”.

In addition, his most recent book United States of Socialism, is out now. To make your purchase, visit here.

2. Holy Hour/Mass for Life

Many states have masses back in session (with restrictions). Some of the faithful should be encouraged to host a Holy Hour for an end to abortion. St. Teresa of Calcutta once believed that if every Catholic made a weekly Holy Hour, we would see an end to abortion. So what are you waiting for? Even if you can’t bring one to you church, make one on your accordance.

3. Take part in vigils in your community

Connect with your local pro-life coalition and find out about vigil locations and times. Pray with your family, college, or even church group. Create a sign that advertises free help with contact information.

4. Host a pro-life committee meeting in your church

Gather people in your parish or church and discuss ways you can help get the pro-life message to your community all around with another pivotal election approaching.

5. Donate to pro-life charity

Give anything you have to advance many pro-life groups making a difference. Some groups include: Generation Life, The Culture Project, St. Raymond Nonnatus Foundation, Guiding Star, and Susan B Anthony List to name a few.

6. Work for Susan B Anthony List

The Susan B Anthony List is gearing up to help reach out to voters as the 2020 elections are coming very soon. They are hiring in many battleground states. To learn more, visit here.

7. Purchase Stork: Sowing Season

An indie author recently came out with an amazing book that promotes a pro-life message. To order your copy, visit here. It will make an excellent read in your backyard with a cold drink or while you’re catching rays at the beach.

8. Sign up for 40 Days for Life

The 40 Days for Life campaign begins on Wednesday, September 23rd and ends the weekend before the General Election. The spring campaign was interrupted with the pandemic. Now, with many states putting this phenomenon behind, it is time to go all in to save lives, pray for the workers, help moms choose life, and make a difference in your community.

9. Sidewalk Servants

Even though we’re a long way from the next 40 Days for Life campaign, there are babies being murdered every day. Your presence for at least an hour two during the week will make an impact on the abortion industry. Learn more about sidewalk servants here. Consider starting one in your community.

Portland, Oregon Pays Pastor $50,000 after Unlawfully Arresting Him for “Conversing with People” about Abortion and the Gospel in a Park

On June 1, 2019, Mark Mayberry was at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland holding a sign defending the unborn, passing out related tracts, and conversing with people about abortion and the Gospel when a park officer ordered Mayberry to leave.

Below is an report by John Fortmeyer from Christian News Northwest.  It concerns a recent court settlement between the city of Portland and a pastor. This portends continuing attacks on our first amendment rights of free speech and freedom of religion as Christians.

The city government last fall acknowledged it was wrong last year to ticket and ban from a downtown park a street evangelist for preaching there.

Several weeks ago, the city agreed to pay him $50,000 to settle the matter.

As reported by The Oregonian, Portland City Council on May 27 approved the settlement with Mark Mayberry, a resident of the southwest Oregon town of Riddle. Represented by Salem attorney Ray Hacke, Mayberry had sued the city in federal court for $300,000 in damages, claiming his First Amendment rights were violated.

Mayberry travels throughout the state to share the Gospel and call for an end to abortion. On June 1, 2019, Mayberry was at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland holding a sign defending the unborn, passing out related tracts, and conversing with people about abortion and the Gospel when a park officer ordered Mayberry to leave.

Asserting that he had a constitutionally protected right of free speech, Mayberry refused. The park officer then issued him a citation barring him from coming to the park for 30 days. The city also charged Mayberry with violating an ordinance by refusing to obey the officer’s orders, and also with violating a state harassment statute.

But Mayberry’s lawyers from the Pacific Justice Institute argued his actions didn’t fit the law’s definition of harassment, specifically using insulting or abusive language or acting to provoke a violent response. Mayberry’s peaceful actions were far from that, they said, and they appealed the matter to the city’s auditor’s office.

A city hearings officer ruled the issuance of the citation had indeed violated Mayberry’s free speech rights under both the state and federal constitutions, and Mayberry’s exclusion from the park was then declared invalid.

Randy Stenquist, a liability manager for the city, said Portland has since made changes in its training within the parks and police departments.

We Don’t Need Cowards or Politicians. . .We Need BISHOPS!

The following is from Judie Brown of American Life League.

Shepherds lead from the front; goatherds lead from behind.

There has been a lot of commentary about Bishop Robert Barron’s insistence that the laity — and not the bishops — should be providing clarity during times of crisis.

So let me give you a vivid example of the rank cowardice we have among the Catholic bishops today.

What follows is a statement made in May 2020 from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops which — if they actually published something like this — would give pro-life Catholics across America a great deal of courage:

“Our hearts are wounded for the many souls mourned as African American communities across the nation are being disproportionately infected with and dying from the impact of Planned Parenthood. We raise our voices to urge state and national leaders to examine the generational and systemic structural conditions that make Planned Parenthood especially deadly to African American communities.

“We stand in support of all communities struggling under the weight Planned Parenthood has had not only on their physical health, but on their livelihoods, especially front line medical and sanitation workers, public safety officers, and those in the service industry. We are praying fervently for an end to abortion, and for physical health for all, and emotional healing amongst all who have lost loved ones.”

The problem?

They never issued a statement going after Planned Parenthood or abortion.  They issued this statement about COVID-19.

If the Catholic bishops can be so adamantly clear during a pandemic that has killed 121,000 Americans, why can’t they be just as strong (if not STRONGER) in the face of the 2,363 abortions committed every day in America?!

Now it has been 103 days since the COVID-19 lockdowns began.  COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 121,000 Americans.  In 103 days, the abortion industry has murdered 271,508 babies.

This, Bishop Barron, is the problem.  We don’t need cowards.  We don’t need more politicians.  We need BISHOPS unafraid to live and defend the GOSPEL.

How much longer will the Catholic bishops be silent in the face of the greatest sin this nation has ever committed in the eyes of God?

If Barron is asking the laity to lead, then the laity is begging our Catholic bishops to ENFORCE CANON 915.

Back to Love Life Chain on June 7 in Waco, Texas

Pro-Life Waco will resume their monthly Life Chains on Sunday, June 7th.  We encourage all who live in or around this area to join in this life-affirming, peaceful, prayerful event. Information is provided below from John Pisciotta.

Life Chain

Pro-Life Waco’s next public square outreach event will be Love Life Chain on June 7 from 2 to 3 PM at the intersection of Waco Drive and Valley Mills Drive, near the now-closed Pei Wei and Five Guys restaurants.

I’m sure our outreach will be highly productive, which even includes the negative reactions of those reminded of the hurt they feel from participation in abortions.  With God’s grace, we pray that we can achieve a conversion, turned a mom to life for her baby, and activate more neighbors to join the active pro-life remnant of the part of Texas we call home.

We live in one of eight Texas abortion cities.  We carry the cross of challenging this evil and hurt with perseverance, consideration, compassion, and the joy of Christian discipleship.

Public Square Outreach has Resumed at the Overpass in Waco, Texas

The following is from John Pisciotta  from Pro-Life Waco

Outreach The public-square outreach of Pro-Life Waco resumed on May 21 with pedestrian overpass outreach over south valley mills drive.

The 11 of us who participated were enthusiastic and likewise the substantial commuter traffic on this sunny spring day.  The honking began even as we were displaying our signs and continued throughout an hour and a half beginning at 5:00 PM.

I’m convinced that one key to continued gains on behalf of those destroyed by abortion and those deceived by abortion is the personal “neighbor to neighbor” witness.  We will return in late June with pedestrian overpass outreach and I hope you will join the declaration that Central Texas residents have many neighbors who deeply care about the shedding of innocent blood.

For the launch of public square outreach thank you for your witness standing for life: Jana, Priscilla, Sheila, Deborah, Lou, Doel, Bob, Leon, Danielle, and Joseph.

Public Square Outreach Returns to Waco This Thursday, May 21st!

The following is from John Pisciotta of Pro-Life Waco

Outreach

I am excited and enthusiastic to announce that the public square PERSONAL  outreach of Pro-Life Waco is returning this week! Babies in the womb are being destroyed at Texas abortion centers and we must be out to plead for their lives.  The launch is Thursday, May 21st with pedestrian overpass outreach from 5 to 6:30 PM. The overpass is at the intersection of South Valley Mills Drive and Bagby Avenue.

We will stand at the overpass with 8 foot spacing. Families can stand together.  This will spread us out for a strong impact for the commuter traffic. I encourage you to wear face masks. This month we will NOT dine together after the event. Maybe in June. Park near Chili’s Restaurant. I would appreciate your responding to this message to let me know if you plan to be a part of the historic return of Pro-Life Waco to public-square outreach. T-shirts will be available, so we all look “together” and sharp.
