Reflection for the Annunciation

Luke 1:26-38

The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his Kingdom, there will be no end.”

But Mary said to the angel,
“How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”

And the angel said to her in reply,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God.”

Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Reflection

The passage above offers us a crucial message that we must convey to moms who will be in Mary’s position. At first, Mary was afraid when she was given the news. However, she gave her “yes” to be the mother of Jesus Christ.

You see, we may be afraid to take the same leap. However, we are called to say yes to God’s will for us. When we say “yes” to life, like Mary did, we unleash the plan God has for us and the child in the mother’s womb.

Say yes to life. It will change yours.

Word from Appletree

The following is from an email blast sent out by Dr.Monique Ruberu

Hey, guys, I got this report from one of our prayer warriors Diane who has spent several hours praying out there recently
This morning a woman walked into 777; turned around, exited the building, and began talking to us.  She wanted information from us regarding a pregnancy test;  she is unsure if she is pregnant.  I gave her one of our bags and was also able to get her an appointment for next Tuesday at Amnion Pregnancy Center (where I volunteer). At  Amnion she will get a free pregnancy test and ultrasound. She also is in need of housing; currently, she lives with her dad and her 3-year-old daughter. Please keep Nikenya in your prayers.

Another girl who was picking up a friend from 777 requested one of our bags.

I was able to speak with 3 different Uber drivers today.  Assuming they were with the women they dropped off, I began telling them about other options besides abortion and how much we love and care for them.  Surprisingly they listened politely to everything I had to say before telling me they were just the drivers.  One even thanked me for what we do and said, “God bless you!”

Guys, I know this is a scary time… I would not recommend going down in big groups, taking public transport or putting yourself in harms way… if you are elderly or immunocompromised stay at home and pray from there… if you have a car feel free to go down By yourself, stand away from people and hold a sign.

We are all praying that these places close like every other business until then I’ll keep sharing stories with you guys and if you feel called to go please do…

here are the uncovered hours…

American Idol Contestant Amber Fiedler Shares Amazing Story of Choosing Adoption Over Abortion

The following is an article from LifeNews.com writer Dave Andrusko

Over the years I’ve written several stories about American Idol, which returned on ABC in March 2018 after a two-year hiatus. Most of the singers grew up in church and in addition to their memorable songs, their stories of perseverance and endurance in face of life’s inevitable trials and tribulations always inspired me.

This year’s crop is exceptional and after missing the first couple of episodes I am now glued to the television screen on Sunday nights.

As it happens, I did not see Sofia Schuster perform. She sang her song “My Body My Choice” for the three judges which she had previously sung at a Planned Parenthood Benefit. It includes such original lyrics as “My body my choice/ It’s not up to the boys/ Nobody should have to go against what’s in their heart/ And no one has the right to tear their dignity apart.”

Etc.

I only heard about her today and could find only a few seconds of her singing. Her voice is fine and, having made the first cut, who knows how far she will go.

But then there is Amber Fiedler, a 23-year-old woman from Idaho, who, when she auditioned a few weeks ago, was 38 weeks pregnant. Katy Perry, one of three judges–Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan are the other two–asked her at the time if she knew the baby’s sex—a girl—and what name she had picked out.

Amber hadn’t. She was placing her for adoption.

“How did you come to that?” Perry asked

“My mom was a user most of my life,” Amber responded. “So my grandma is the one that raised me. The last few years I was going out and drinking a bunch. I was getting caught up in life. With this pregnancy, I’ve learned who I was as a person. I’ve had time to sit and think, and looking at the big picture of life, there are days where I don’t even have $20 in my pocket. If I’m not ready to be a mom, why would I put her through that, you know?”

The family she had chosen for her baby will be able to “give her everything she wants.”

“I’m not going to be able to do that,” she said. “I’m hoping that she’s gonna understand I am trying to choose the best for her.”

After the judges gave Amber her “ticket” to Hollywood, Perry said, “Maybe you’re not ready to be a mom, but you are ready to be an American Idol.” Then (thanks here to People magazine)

“Do you hear that, baby?” Fiedler asked her belly, before reuniting with her ecstatic family outside the doors of the audition room.

As Fiedler’s family embraced her, she said, “I fulfilled my dream today by getting a golden ticket. My dream for the baby is that she lives a beautiful and happy life with the life that I have chosen for her, and I know she’s gonna.”

I saw her perform Sunday night at the “Hollywood” stage of American Idol. She had given birth just three weeks before. She told the judges it was

“such a beautiful moment when she came out and just seeing the adoptive mom hold her. it felt good, it felt right , it felt peaceful.  And I am really happy about my decision. The adoptive family named her, they named her Norma Rose They chose Rose because of my red hair. She’s really going to bring light to a lot of people’s lives. I mean she’s brought a lot of light to mine.”

Before she announced her song choice, they cut away to an earlier interview where she said,

It is a weird thing going through all this. I never would have thought that this would be my life. But I have a really good feeling that I am really am going to help people and help girls go through what I  went through.

She told the judges that she was going to sing “Rise Up,” Andra Day’s incredibly powerful song from 2015.

And then a cutaway to where Amber says, “All for her.”

Elsewhere Amber says, “The baby saved me, she really did.”

You can listen to Amber’s story and her magnificent voice here.

The True Colors of Planned Parenthood; Witness from a prayer warrior

From an email blast sent out by Dr. Monqieu Ruberu.

Dear friends,

Today one of our prayer participants saw the true colors of planned parenthood in a 15 minute period of time…

a young girl stumbled out of the front doors… crying in pain she slumped over and vomited into a bag… nobody followed her… nobody from the clinic put their arm around her and comforted her… the prayer warrior asked if he could help but she refused assistance from him…

moments later the Brinks armored guard van pulls up… the man from the armored car jumps off and goes into Planned Parenthood… he comes out with a bag full of money and heads straight to his vehicle without a second glance at the crying girl on the bench…the sight must be so common for him…

the abortions continue… despite the fact that elective surgeries all over the town have been canceled … surgical abortions and abortion pill abortions are continuing…

guys I know… taking public transport is risky… so don’t take the train or the bus… but if you live nearby, if you have your own car, if you have a good mask, please consider being there in prayer… if you don’t feel comfortable nobody will fault you… pray hard at home and fast a little extra for this cause… but if you can go and stay 6 feet away from others and just hold a sign that says “it’s not too late we want to help you – text 484-451-8104 or call 267-239-0753” or “we can reverse your abortion pill – abortionpillreversal.com” feel free to wear a mask… whatever makes you feel comfortable.
please help if you can:

Brave Pastor, Brave Flock

An email blast from Dr. Monique Ruberu

Have you ever noticed that the poorest of the poor are frequently the most generous… they willingly share what little they have without asking for anything in return…

They are blessed.., they are being the hands and feet of Jesus…

Many of us come from big church communities with beautiful sanctuaries, lovely padded pews, collection baskets that are filled at multiple masses or services… People come to church driving expensive cars and when a request is made to give one hour of their time to spend praying outside of abortion Centers we are lucky to get 3 volunteers… everyone else looks away or looks at the floor as they pass us by…

Yet in the depths of Philly, there is a beautiful small but growing community of Christians… Ones that serve and give until it hurts… and then they give more. I’m speaking of Pastor Curtis and the members of the Philadelphia Ekklesia church… I visited them last year, They worship in rented space from a stained window factory, they worship on foldable chairs, and they give everything they have.
their prayers and worship are beautiful.. and they are led by a Truly pro-life pastor. Pastor Curtis prays outside of 12th and locust every Monday. Every Saturday he prays with his children outside of the downtown abortion Centers again. His community makes many of the blessing bags you hand out while praying outside, they come as a church to fill the vigil, and they even throw baby showers for moms that have chosen life.
Their church is not wealthy in terms of dollars and cents, but they are SO wealthy in terms of love, compassion, service, generosity, kindness and doing God’s work.
May we all try to be more like Pastor Curtis as his church!!!

Encounter with 6 Clients

This was from an email blast sent out yesterday by Dr. Monique Ruberu

Dear friends,

I wanted to share an encounter that our dear friend Marlene who leads the Hope Pregnancy Center sponsored by Greater Exodus Church shared with me… She has a total of 6 clients today!!!

6 couples that were looking for help on their path… 6 babies whose moms were trying to determine if they would allow them the gift of life… and every time Marlene met with them she was so open to God… His guidance, His word… the impression He placed on her heart as to how to best minister to the child He brought to her…

a young high school girl sat in front of Marlene… she didn’t appear like the overly studious type but instantly the Lord impressed upon Marlene that she was a good student…

Marlene asked her, “You’re a good student aren’t you” and the girl quietly replied, “yes”… “What are your grades like?” “Straight A’s”

Marlene instantly knew to continue trusting in the Lord within this conversation… The girl came in already resigned to have an abortion.. she came for the free pregnancy test to solidify her plan…

Marlene invited her and the father to sit with her… she explained that they are ALREADY parents, they are already a Man and Woman… acting like the baby isn’t real or their child isn’t going to make it so… they need to talk to her mother… share the truth and make decisions based on the facts…

she then had them read a card out loud… she had the young father read 6 points about adoption and the young mother read 6 points about abortion… this is what it sounded like :

Him: your pregnancy ends with giving life

Her: Your pregnancy ends with death

him: you can feel good about your choice

her: You may feel guilt and shame about your choice

him: You will remember giving birth

her; You will remember taking life

him: You will have plenty of time to plan you and your baby’s future

her: Abortion is final you will have no time to go back on this decision.
Him: You can hold, name and love your baby

her: You will never know or treasure your baby

him: You can have continued contact with your child and know how he or she is growing and developing

her: You will miss the opportunity to see your child grow and develop

After they read through this together out loud… Marlene turned to the young father… she said, you obviously care about her… do you want her to go through everything that comes with abortion… he responded, “No, and I don’t want my child to be killed”

Marlene prayed with them both… she signed them both up for an ultrasound a few days later, please please pray that this young couple returns to see their child

Please pray for Marlene and all the other Pregnancy Help Centers that care for the men and women we so desire to minister to.
please fill these hours tomorrow and maybe you can be the one who sends the next person to the centers for help!!!

Praying Through It All- 40 Days Update

From an email blast sent out by Dr. Monique Ruberu

Today was another blessed day at the vigil… Thank God for Lisa Guchaz and her crew from St Matts with help from St Monica’s Angel 🙂

Also thank God for our buddies from Holy Martyrs organized by Bob Gilles with additional help from new vigil participants Fran & Cathy and long-timers Bern and Tom… THANK YOU ALL for filling every hour!!!

today we have a lovely update from the front lines from Lisa,

” Today went quickly… many bags were handed out.   There are only a few left.” Every bag that is handed out contains a brochure with resources, a handwritten encouraging card was written by a prolifer, some candy and a coupon for a free ultrasound… every bag has the potential to save a life.

“Early in the day, the police were called and they entered planned parenthood.  The policemen exited with a gentleman talking about fathers’ rights.” Sadly most men don’t realize that they have no right to save their child from abortion in our country… planned parenthood will call the cops and have them escorted out if they try to save their child and mother of the baby… many men regret the abortions they were involved with.

“Later in the day, while we were praying a man spat on the ground near us as well as another man walking quickly by kicked my water bottle down the street.  As I watched him look back at me for my reaction I just continued to pray and he continued to kick my bottle. Unfortunately for him, my bottle was aluminum and I’m sure he will remember this day with a sore foot and hopefully a reminder not to do that again.”

she didn’t fight, she didn’t curse, she didn’t try and beat him up… she continued to pray…

if ever in danger always feel free to call 911.. the officers will send civil affairs and you will be protected… if you feel unsafe – walk away call 911 while you are walking if someone is bothering you.
“I did speak to a young girl exiting planned parenthood and mentioned the women’s center she said her cousin went there.  While she chose not to go today, there’s still hope.”Keep praying for this girl!!!

Thank you all for your help and prayers!!!

Reminder about Margaret Sanger

The following is from an email blast sent out by Dr. Monique Ruberu. A pro-lifer turned around a sign that featured a quote from the founder of Planned Parenthood. A note written by a disgruntled by one pro-lifer was discovered this morning during the campaign.

Today at the vigil we noticed that one of the signs had tampered with. The sign that had a quote from Margaret Sanger saying “We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population…” was turned the other way…

At first, I thought this was the work of a pro-choice person, but then on reading the note that had been left, I realized this was done by one of us…

So I thought it would be good to just go over a little bit why we chose to put a Margaret Sanger quote on our sign and why we think it’s important for everybody to understand what she believed and to realize that Planned Parenthood still touts her as an amazing leader for women. They even give out an award in her name and have a portion centers such as the one in New York City named after her.

This was a woman who was a huge proponent for abortion for the sole purpose of ending the lives and limiting the population of those that she saw as weak and unfit to be a part of our society. Her active role as a leader in the world of eugenics and her writings are Evidence of these beliefs.

if you do have a question or concern about any of our materials or signs please speak to Pat or me. Our goal is not to upset people but rather to reveal the truth about Planned Parenthood and its founder.

Thank you all so much for all of your support and kindness in this visual thus far once again we have filled another day with no empty spots in our vigil.

Please continue to fill the following empty spots throughout the rest of the week.

Abortion Hurts Men Too- Philly 40 Days for Life

The following is from an email blast sent out by Dr. Monique Ruberu. She shares about a pro-lifer’s encounter with a man whose girlfriend was getting an abortion at 777 Appletree.

Dear Friends,

Abortion hurts. It hurts the child the mother and the father. It hurts the siblings, the grandparents, the great grandparents and every one of us that miss out on the gift of that human being.
Often at the abortion centers, we encounter men who are completely helpless. They have no “choice” in the matter and their inability to protect their child is heartbreaking.
Thank you for being there for these men as well.   I thank God that Rita was there to acknowledge one of these men’s pain and try to be the hands and feet of Jesus at that moment…

Sadly, this mother likely didn’t change her mind, but at least this man may be exposed to the love of Jesus… sometimes all we can do is plant a seed and let God grow it within them.

Here is Rita’s encounter:

I had a divine appointment yesterday at Appletree. After driving around forever to find a parking space, I found a space on Appletree Street on the same block as the clinic. Once I found the spot I had to put a note on my car in an attempt to avoid getting a ticket while I wandered all over to get change for the kiosk. In my frustration, I was, honestly, tempted to leave but I pressed past the temptation for the cause. This proved to be perfectly orchestrated as I finally got change and purchased my ticket at the kiosk.  As I stepped away from the kiosk a guy walked up, looked at the kiosk, and asked me in frustration if it took dollar bills.  I told him, “No” and expressed my frustration about the situation to him as well.  I just knew that he was with someone that was in Appletree so I purposely used this encounter as a segue to approach his reason for being there.

So my next question was, “Where are you going?”  He said, “My lady is in there” and pointed to the clinic.  I said, “Oh, she is in there having an abortion?”  He hung his head in sorrow and said, “Yeah.”  I replied, “I’m so sorry.  Is there anything I can do to help?”  He hung and shook his head again, shrugged his shoulders, and said, “Naw.  She made up her mind.”  He said that she has lupus and didn’t want the complications.  I asked him if she did it yet and he said he didn’t know but there was nothing he could do.  I told him that I was so sorry and shared with him the story of my termination as a teenager and how 35 years later the father of the baby still talked about our baby with regret.  As I walked him to his car, I told him that I know abortion hurts men.  I had just parked,  so I didn’t get a chance to grab any literature from our post so I gave him a gospel tract and shared with him the love of Jesus for him, his girlfriend, and their baby.

After I gave him the track, it occurred to me that I could write the names of resources on the back of the track for him.  I saw a pen in his car and asked if I could use it to write some resources on the track for him but he declined.  However, he did keep the tract.  I asked his name to pray for him.  He said his name is Antoine.  If nothing else, I can usher him by name to the throne of God that the Holy Spirit would intervene and draw them to Himself in love, repentance, and healing.  I believe that the process started the moment we met.

Rita

One hour at a time; One hour at a time

The following is from an email blast sent out by Dr. Monique Ruberu, coordinator of the Philadelphia 40 Days for Life campaigns.

Dear friends…

I’m so happy to report that we have successfully filled every hour at both vigils thus far without any gaps 🙂 that’s 63 hours of coverage!! at 777 we had Chuck Kuhar who covered for 5 hours by himself representing his Knights of Columbus group. At 12th and Locust, we had multiple people pulling together to cover all of the hours…beautiful sacrifice.

All of this happens because our Amazing creator has moved each of your hearts and souls to respond… God is so good and He is constantly providing for us…

He has made it possible to have nearby places to store our signs and resources. He has given us safety and peace as we pray. He has filled us with a sense of sadness and compassion for the men and women entering these buildings… He has filled our hearts with a desire to rise up and stand in solidarity for those brothers and sisters who have no voice… the smallest, weakest, most innocent of us all. He has provided each and every one of you and I am SO GRATEFUL.
Thank you Lord! Thank you Lord! Thank you, my friends, for your Yes. Your simple willingness to respond to these emails… I love you guys and I am praying for each one of you as we continue on to do this most important work.
