Think What Would have been Lost Without Adoption

November is National Adoption Awareness Month and to celebrate, the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation has been posting stories all month on adoption.  Below is one from Maria Gallagher, Legislative/PAC Director of the Federation on Wendy’s founder, Dave Thomas.

My co-worker surprised me one day by asking, “Did you see what’s on your cup?”

I turned the red paper cup around and looked at the wording imprinted on it. It stated, “Face it. Without adoption, Wendy’s wouldn’t be here.”

I knew it to be true. The founder of Wendy’s, the late Dave Thomas, had been adopted as a child. As an adult, after building a successful nationwide restaurant chain, he became a tireless advocate for adoption.

Think about it. Consider the jobs that would have been lost, the relationships that never would have formed. The people who would not have had Dave Thomas to look up to as a mentor and a business leader, were it not for adoption. Just one child. One story.  One adoption.

Abortion Forever Severs the Bond Between Mother and Child

Below is commentary by Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation which was published in NRL News Today.

Severs

It was with a mixture of emotions that I noted “Women’s Equality Day” last week.
I am quite thankful for the sacrifices and struggles that our foremothers underwent to ensure that American women live in a free and equal society. I treasure my right to vote, my professional prospects, and equal treatment under the law.
But I cannot help but think that feminist pioneers such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton would be deeply disappointed with the failures that keep women oppressed.
Key among these is legalized abortion. Millions of baby girls are denied the right to life under the Roe v. Wade regime. They are unable to exercise any rights, because they have been robbed of the most fundamental of these—the mere right to exist.  Read more here

Did the Democratic Presidential Candidates Forget About Gosnell?

The following is by Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation.

Gosnell

This is a question I long to ask the current crop of Democratic candidates for President: Have you forgotten Kermit Gosnell?

Gosnell was the infamous West Philadelphia abortionist and mass murderer who is suspected of killing hundreds of newborn babies. Prosecutors could bring criminal charges in only a handful of cases because Gosnell destroyed so many records from his “House of Horrors” abortion facility.

Ultimately, Gosnell was convicted of the murder of three newborn babies and involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of a female patient, Karnamaya Mongar. He is now safely off the streets, serving three consecutive life terms in prison.

I have yet to hear a Democratic Presidential candidate mention his name. He does not fit their false narrative: that abortionists come to the rescue of women (they don’t) and that infanticide is a hoax (tell that to those who witnessed Gosnell’s evil deeds).

What You Can Do to Save Lives!

Below is commentary by Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation.
There are many women out there who are hurting because of a decision they made or one that was made for them.  As Maria reminds us, there are many alternatives out there to help women heal after an abortion and many pregnancy help centers ready to help women who are facing a difficult decision.
Please take a moment to read Maria’s article  and if you know someone who needs help, please offer that help to them in a loving, compassionate way.  I’ve listed links to a few pregnancy help centers and post-abortive groups below.
You could be the One
By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation
Whenever I contemplate the effect of abortion on women, I think of a friend I will refer to as “Jessica.”
A boyfriend pressured Jessica into an abortion when she was a young teenager. She felt she had no say in the matter, and she believed she was powerless.
Years after that tragic event, she firmly believes that if a single person had supported a decision for life on the day of abortion, her baby would not have died.
A noteworthy national poll bears that out. The survey of post-abortive women indicated that the vast majority of respondents would have decided against abortion if just one person had offered support. Just one!

In the End, the Truth is the Unborn Baby’s Best Friend

Below is commentary from Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation which appeared in the NRL News Today.

The abortion industry and its political backers have descended to a new low as far as double-speak is concerned.

For years, they have been promoting dehumanizing language such as “product of conception” and “blobs of tissue” to describe a uniquely formed, undeniably human preborn baby.

But the effort to obfuscate and deceive has intensified with the terminology used about and by their candidates for public office.

This week the pro-abortion lobbying group known as NARAL tweeted that a pro-abortion candidate was a “fighter for women and families.” Such a statement, by rights, should earn a few Pinocchios for its falsity.

Ode to Abortion: Poeticizing Death

The following is from the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation LifeLines Newsletter  by Bonnie Finnerty who is the Education Director of the Federation.

Ode to Abortion

In my past life as an English teacher, I encouraged students’ playful experimentation with language. Words matter, I told my students.  Words stir emotions, illuminate a truth, even persuade a foe.  Poetry and prose possess power.

Yet, words can be used for more malevolent purposes.  They might not illuminate, but darken and distort. They can minimize, romanticize, even glorify that which is ugly, violent, and evil. Words can be used to manipulate those who hear them.

No one knows this better than the pro-abortion wordsmiths.

They have poeticized abortion, luring many with polished vocabulary and rhythmic phrases that seek to dull senses and numb protestations.

Their “ode” to abortion goes something like this:

The right to choose is a private decision between a woman and her doctor and an integral part of her reproductive freedom and health care. The termination of a pregnancy is a safe procedure that empties the pregnancy tissue from the uterus and is a Constitutionally protected right.

Sounds almost harmless. Until you scratch through the lexicon’s shiny veneer.

Deconstruct this abortion “poem” phrase by phrase, and the blaring truth is a cacophony that pierces our conscience.  READ FULL ARTICLE

Cable TV Commentator’s Arguments for Legal Abortion Melt Away

The following is commentary by Maria V. Gallagher, Legislative Director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation  on Tomi Lahren’s book, ‘Never Play Dead’ where she wrongly tries to defend legal abortion.

Lahren

The arguments made by pro-abortion advocates can melt away quicker than a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream on a sweltering July day. Take, for instance, the defense of legal abortion posed by cable television commentator Tomi Lahren.

In her book Never Play Dead, Lahren dismisses the pro-life point of view as a merely religious objection to the practice of abortion.

Speaking of those who would like to see the U.S. Supreme Court overturn the tragic U.S. Supreme Court ruling known as Roe v. Wade, Lahren claims they are engaging in an enterprise that would be “unconstitutional” “because we don’t legislate morality. We don’t nominate people to that position [Supreme Court Justice] just to carry out our religion.”

But in truth, the life issues cannot be narrowly defined as being a question of religion. Atheists can be pro-life. The case against abortion can be made on many legitimate grounds: scientific, Constitutional, and legal.

It does not take a divinity degree to recognize the fact that life begins at conception, that the moment of fertilization is a life-giving act which merits legal protection for the unique individual created.

You do not have to belong to a place of worship to understand that a person’s heart starts beating 24 days after conception and brain waves can be detected 44 days post-conception.

It is an act of intellectual engagement, not religious fervor, to argue that our founding fathers saw the right to life as a pillar of a stable society.

This is not to say that religion cannot be a motivator in seeking justice—certainly it was for modern day heroes such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But it is simply wrong to claim that people who recognize the inherent rights of children in the womb are somehow forcing their religion on other people.

Lahren rails against putting justices on the High Court to “interpret your religion.” That is not the position of the mainstream pro-life movement. Pro-lifers advocate an interpretation of the Constitution which is based on what that sacred document actually says, rather than what pro-abortion zealots wish it said.

Reason and common sense are key planks of the pro-life platform. They were back before Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973, and they continue to be today. And that is why the pro-life case is so persuasive, generation after generation.

Urgent Legislative Alert from the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

The following action alert is from Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation in reference to merit selection of judges.

If you want to retain your right to vote for judges in Pennsylvania and make sure that Governor Wolf does not appoint pro-abortion judges, then please take a moment and send a message to your Pennsylvania State Representative (link for contact information is provided by the Federation below).

Pa Action Alert

House Bill 111, the so-called merit selection of judges bill, would take away the public’s right to vote for judges. Instead, a pro-abortion Governor could make the appointments. The bill could be voted on by the PA House of Representatives at any time.

Action Item: Please call and email your state representative with this urgent message: “Please oppose House Bill 111. I do not want my right to vote for judges to be taken away.”

If you do not know who your state representative is, or you need contact information, please use this link.

Thank you for making these critical calls and sending these important emails!
